emphasis on providing youth with leadership opportunities and the collaborative

programs on behalf of children and youth. Young people in Ohio County take pride in

becoming involved in important community issues as evidenced by “Operation

Storefront,” an anti-tobacco campaign to reduce ads that inundate young people in

stores, and the service provided by two community youth on the county school board.

Community members show their support for education through efforts such as the

"Great Pencil Handout," where on the first day of school, community business people,

parents, clergy, and politicians greet students with a smile and pencil at every school

door.
